Dina M. Leech, Ph.D.

Dr. Leech is an Associate Professor of Biology in Longwood’s Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. She is a native of Virginia and attended James Madison University, where she received a B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Ecology.  She received her Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Lehigh University in 2001 and then went on to do postdoctoral work at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Leech has 20+ years of experience working in lakes, rivers, and estuaries.  Her research focuses on how human-induced environmental change affects water quality, biodiversity, and food web dynamics.  Even in her free time, Dr. Leech enjoys being out on the water with her family.

Kirsten Bauer

Kirsten is a senior at Longwood majoring in Integrated Environmental Sciences.  She is a member of the LIFE STEM fellowship program as well as the Longwood Honors College.  Kirsten has a strong interest in aquatic science and has played an integral role in designing experiments to investigate the role of terrestrially-derived dissolved organic matter on "dead zone" formation in the Chesapeake Bay.  More recently, she has been helping to assemble and analyze an environmental database to assess the effects of water quality on largemouth bass populations in local reservoirs. Her 'R' skills are exponentially increasing!!!

Davice Jones

Davice is a sophomore at Longwood majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She is also a member of LIFE STEM and the Cormier Honors College. Davice has an eclectic interest in the natural sciences, ranging from medicine to marine biology. She has taken part in Longwood's ongoing research on the state of the Chesapeake Bay, and this past summer, she participated in Longwood's PRISM program.  As a PRISM fellow, Davice aided in the construction of our environmental database to assess effects of water quality on largemouth bass.  This required her to code in 'R' for the first time and quickly learn multivariate statistics. Go, Davice!
